Experience Requirements:

  • University degree in an engineering related subject
  • A minimum of 10 years applied system safety case experience including major engineering projects in the railway industry
  • Experience of preparing System Safety Cases to meet EN 50129 and associated contractual requirements
  • Knowledge and experience of system safety analysis techniques, engineering safety processes and standards including EN 50126 and EN 50128
  • Knowledge of EN62267 and NFPA 130
  • Experience of acting as a HAZID/HAZOP Chairman
  • Understanding of railway related infrastructure including trackwork, station & tunnel M&E systems and transit systems including rolling stock, signaling, communication and power systems

Job Role & Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Safety Case Engineers.
  • Develop and maintain Consortium System Procedures and associated guidance specifically:
  • Safety Case Procedure.
  • Hazard Identification & Analysis Procedure.
  • System Safety Software Procedure.
  • Develop and issue the Consortium level Design and Final Safety Cases.
  • Define the requirements for the Transit and CWJV System & Subsystem Safety Cases.
  • Review, accept & coordinate Safety Case inputs including the results of supporting safety studies such as fire, EMC and human factors.
  • Complete required Consortium level hazard analyses including the Preliminary Hazard Analysis.
  • Liaise with ADA/RMTC and the ICP/ISA on Safety Case matters.
  • Work effectively with the Transit and CWJV system safety and engineering managers with discretion and diplomacy and be able to influence outcomes with good judgement.
  • Influence the Transit and CWJV system safety and engineering managers to provide safety verification evidence including Subsystem Hazard Log Reports so that it can be compiled to meet the requirements of the Design & Final Safety Cases within the constraints of limited timescales.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure that the Hazard Log and safety verification requirements are understood by the Transit & CWJV System Safety Managers and that appropriate evidence is provided to the Independent Competent Person and ADA ISA.

Educational Background: Engineering degree (Master of Sc or higher)
