Health, Safety, & Environment, Programs and Compliance Manager in Canada

Location: Markham, Ontario

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all facets of the Miller Group’s COR program (i.e., tracking of internal compliance, IHSA correspondence, internal reporting and audit preparation, etc.)
  • Establish, support and conduct health and safety orientations (for employees and sub-contractors), produce orientation packages and PowerPoint presentations
  • Lead the implementation of a new Electronic HSE Management System in 2020, across the Business, while working in conjunction with Colas Canada
  • Functional leader of the Miller Group’s CVOR compliance program throughout the organization via tracking and trending of data, reporting, and regulatory oversight
  • Prepare reports and statistical analysis to support the health and safety management system and COR requirements
  • Provide required monthly safety and environmental performance reports to management, identify trends, recommend initiatives to reduce incidents and improve prevention initiatives
  • Plan for, and conduct, health and safety training including but not limited to: WHMIS, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, Environmental Compliance, etc.
  • Manage the administration of intranet sites and corporate communication
  • Develop and manage Health and Safety programs for the Miller Group in compliance with the Provincial and Federal Regulations
  • Perform formal and informal HSE inspections / audits and identify corrective actions where needed
  • Assist HSE Coordinators / Managers in region specific issues
  • Assist Senior Manager / VP HSE – HSE Strategy in due diligence investigations and transition activities
  • Monitor the Miller Group HSE performance (leading and lagging indicators) against internal and industry standards
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal/provincial/municipal HSE legislation including applicable industry standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years in HSE related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in HSE or related field
  • Moderate administrative skills – including attention to detail and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environment is preferred, practical experience is an asset to this role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and understands the dynamics of a busy office environment
  • Solid organizational planning skills with ability to delegate or escalate to management when required
  • Self-directed, takes initiative, and is able to perform as part of a team
  • Positive attitude, professional and reliable
