EHS Expert Safety job in the Netherlands

The position

The position EHS safety expert reports to the EHS Associate Director, Pharmaceutical Operations and ensures compliance with internal and external laws and regulations and standards that apply to us. You are responsible for identifying, preventing and mitigating safety and environmental risks in order to protect our employees and the environment. You are jointly responsible for improving the EHS management system and standards. You also supervise internal and external inspections and audits. You are always looking for opportunities to further optimize the work of EHS, and you are motivated to take the lead in this. This role has a broad focus on all safety-related topics such as contractor management, high-risk work,rootcause investigation in the event of incidents and management of change.


  • You provide direction and lead site-wide safety programs (such as high-risk work, contractor management, management of change, inspections and audits);
  • You translate EHS laws and regulations and requirements of our parent company into practically feasible programs;
  • You provide substantive advice and support on a number of safety-related topics such as incident and near miss investigation, management of change, machine safety, contractor management and high-risk work;
  • You participate in project teams and carry out tasks that are appropriate for you, such as risk assessments, review of adjustments to facilities and equipment, review of new processes and investments;
  • You monitor and improve the EHS compliance of the site;
  • You communicate and advise clear and clearly complex technical information and legal requirements to both site management and colleagues in the workplace;
  • You ensure that the production departments on site work according to safety procedures and work instructions and you take immediate action if the situation requires it;
  • Following audits and inspections you develop corrective and preventive actions if necessary;
  • You report EHS related KPIs (such as deviations, incidents and CAPAs);
  • You participate in improvement projects.

Your Profile

  • A completed HVK (Higher Safety) training;
  • An HBO or university degree in a chemical or technical direction or similar;
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a safety expert, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry or comparable;
  • Change agent; being open to change and passion for continuous improvement;
  • Able to influence and communicate with all layers in the organization; from the shop floor to senior management;
  • Strong project management skills and strong in managing complex issues
  • Compliance mindset;
  • Team speller, good collaboration and result-oriented;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Dutch and English.
